Chronic Overcoming
This is a commision for a dear friend. I think this painting reflects the strength and resolve she has, having persevered so many obstacles in her life. As I began with my usual process of building layers and mark-making, this figure emerged. Her mood is solemn, but resolute. Life has left its marks all over her, but her beauty comes forth, despite the pain and suffering. Like me, she struggles with symptoms of an injured brain. The chaos, discomfort and disconnectedness that TBI survivors can experience can be overwhelming. However, if we can "chronically overcome" then, life will produce it's sweet moments and a rhythm of joy that turns pain into beauty. I love you, my friend.
